Overview

Caledonia is a town in the northwest part of Livingston County, bordered to the north by Monroe County, to the east by Monroe County and Avon, to the south by Avon and York, and to the west by Genesee County. The town includes the village of Caledonia as well as several hamlets. The Caledonia Fish Hatchery, a state fish-breeding spot, is north of the village on Route 36.


Essentials

Caledonia has a variety of small stores, including the Caledonia Market Place grocery at 3136 Main St. There’s also a Dollar General store, a hardware store, a drugstore, a florist, pizza shops and the Town and Country Family Restaurant. For larger grocery stores, the closest Wegmans is in Geneseo, about 17 miles southwest, and in Chili (Monroe County), about 15 miles northeast. The closest Tops Friendly Markets store is in Avon, about 8 miles southeast. For major retailers, there’s a Walmart Supercenter in Geneseo. The Marketplace mall is in bustling Henrietta, about 17 miles northwest, where you’ll find a plethora of shopping and dining options.



Recreation & Entertainment

Outdoor recreation, like hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, are the biggest attractions in Caledonia. The biggest attraction is the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, just a couple of miles northwest in Mumford. The place has several attractions, including the John L. Wehle Gallery of Sporting Art, the Genesee Country Nature Center, and the Silver Baseball Park, where, in warm-weather months, games of 19th century baseball are played.



Transportation & Traffic

Major highways are Route 5, an east-west route in town, and Route 20, which also crosses Caledonia from east to west. State Route 36, a north-south highway, intersects both routes.



Pros & Cons

Caledonia is a cozy small town with several stores and eateries in the village. The town is pretty wide-open and popular with outdoor enthusiasts like hunters and fishermen. Proximity to the Genesee Country Village & Museum is a plus. A college town, Geneseo, is a short drive away, and so is Henrietta, one of the busiest retail centers in Monroe County.
