Overview

Mount Morris is on the western edge of Livingston County, bordered to the north by Leicester, to the east by Groveland and West Sparta, to the south by Nunda, and to the west by the Genesee River and Wyoming County (town of Castile). The town includes a village also named Mount Morris. There’s a lot of history here: the South Main Street Historic District and the Murray Street Historic District both are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Francis Bellamy, who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, was born here.



Essentials

Shopping in Mount Morris includes a Family Dollar and a Dollar General store, a hardware store, a flower shop and several antique shops. For grocery shopping, the closest Tops Friendly Markets stores are in Avon (16 miles northeast) and in Warsaw, Wyoming County (15 miles west). 



Recreation & Entertainment

Letchworth State Park is huge and often called “The Grand Canyon of the East.” The park has a scenic gorge, three waterfalls, a swimming pool and cabins and campsites, a well-known inn and restaurant, and a hugely popular arts and crafts festival in the fall. Theatre 101 on Main Street offers music, open-mike nights and theater productions.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 36 (heading north-south) and Route 408 (east-west) intersect in Mount Morris. Interstate 390 passes near the east town line.



Pros & Cons

This little town has a lot going for it, not the least of which is its locale near bucolic and majestic Letchworth State Park. Mount Morris has two historic districts and several other architecturally- and historically significant buildings. The mighty Mount Morris Dam is an attraction on its own. Easy access to Interstate 390 is a plus.
