Welcome to Springwater, NY

Overview

Springwater is a town in the southeastern corner of Livingston County, bordered to the north by Conesus (and Ontario County); to the east by Ontario County (town of Naples); to the south by Steuben County (town of Wayland); and to the west by Sparta. Springwater features rolling hills, with the highest summits up to 1,000 feet above the valleys. There are no villages in this wide-open town of roughly 2,500 residents, but there are three hamlets: Springwater Hamlet, Websters Crossing and Liberty Pole.

Essentials

Being such a wide-open, natural community, Springwater has little in the way of shopping. There are several nearby choices, though – for instance, there’s a Dollar General in neighboring Wayland, and Dansville, 12 miles southwest, has a Family Dollar store and, for groceries, a Tops Friendly Markets. For more grocery shopping, the closest Wegmans supermarket is in Geneseo (19 miles northwest), where you’ll also find a Walmart Supercenter.

Recreation & Entertainment

Recreation here is of the outdoor variety. Springwater is a small town with plenty of wide-open space, and residents here enjoy the solitude of natural surroundings. Hemlock Lake, at the north end of town, is one of the smaller Finger Lakes and undeveloped and regulated. That makes the lake area a great place for quiet interaction with nature, through hiking and other such activities.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 15 and Route 15A are the only highways in the area. The routes join in the center of Springwater.

Pros & Cons

Springwater is one of the more undeveloped towns in Livingston County, so residents come here for tranquility and peace and quiet. There are plenty of places to enjoy nature here, whether at Hemlock Lake, Harriet Hollister Spencer Recreation Area, or at Springwater Center. Shopping and restaurants are just a short drive away.
