Overview
Conesus is a town on the eastern edge of central Livingston County, bordered to the north by Livonia, to the east by Hemlock Lake, to the south by Sparta and Springwater, and to the west by Groveland and, in the northern half, Conesus Lake. With two of the Finger Lakes – albeit minor Finger Lakes – on its borders, it’s not hard to figure out the big attraction of Conesus. Boaters, fishermen- and –women, campers, hikers – anyone who enjoys being by the water – are drawn to this town. Several lakefront communities surround Conesus Lake, and a popular “Ring of Fire” surrounds the lake on the Fourth of July. Hemlock Lake is protected and regulated and has lush, tranquil areas but no development around it. With only about 2,500 residents, Conesus has no village but has a few hamlets.
Local Museums & Landmarks Conesus Town Hall, formerly the Conesus Amusement Hall, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Also on the Register: the Kellerman Log Cabin, which was built in 1816 and moved to a park in 1978; the Payne Cobblestone House; and the Sliker Cobblestone House. |
