Overview

Dansville is a village in southeastern Livingston County and part of the town of North Dansville, not to be confused with the neighboring town of Dansville in Steuben County. The village is bordered to the north by Sparta, to the east by Steuben County (town of Wayland), to the south by Allegany County (town of Burns) and to the west by West Sparta and Ossian.


Essentials

Dansville has a vibrant business district, with stores like Family Dollar, CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid Pharmacy, and other smaller retailers. For grocery shopping, there’s a Tops Friendly Markets store in Dansville as well as a Save-a-Lot market. The closest Wegmans supermarket is in Hornell, 17 miles south. There’s also a Wayland Food Mart in neighboring Wayland, about 6 miles east.



Recreation & Entertainment

The biggest attraction here is Stony Brook State Park, which has picnic areas and shelters and a gorge-side trail with several waterfalls. The village of Dansville has a movie theater complex, the Star Theatre, and the Dansville Community Center, along with an historic downtown shopping district, a fish and game club and a nine-hole golf course. Dansville host several festivals, including the Dogwood Festival in May and the New York State Festival of Balloons, which is held over the Labor Day weekend.



Transportation & Traffic

Interstate 390, a major north-south highway, passes through the village of Dansville. Several other highways also cross through Dansville, including state routes 63, 36, 256 and 436. Access to surrounding and regional municipalities is fairly easy.



Pros & Cons

Dansville is on the western edge of the Finer Lakes Region and is close to the Southern Tier. The village has a lot of history, including an historic downtown shopping district, and a decent amount of shopping. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville is the regional hospital. Access to several highways makes traveling to and from here relatively easy. Stony Brook State Park is a gem.
