Neighboring Mount Morris, about 14 miles northeast, has two separate historic districts and other sites, including a 1930s Art Deco movie theater, on the National Register. The Mount Morris Dam, said to be the largest of its kind in the eastern United States, also is a landmark worth seeing. Nunda (only 4 miles east) and Mount Morris both have historical societies that serve the Portage area.
